Huron River Residence

The masterplan for this 60 acre island in the Huron River included the siting of a new house and barn, driveway, sports field, trout pond, swimming pool, walking paths, gardens, meadow planting and restoration of the existing prairie.

The driveway was laid out to create an arrival sequence that passed through a varying landscape of meadow and woodland with only brief glimpses of the pond and house in the distance. The house was sited to allow for views to the river to the north as well as the meadow and pond to the south. Selective clearing was done along the river to open up view corridors while maintaining enough vegetion to preserve the natural character of the site and a sense of seclusion.
