Bournes Pond Residence

East Falmouth, MA

The landscape design for this coastal property needed to fulfill conservation requirements for mitigation planting while also accomplishing several important design goals. The client wanted an informal, low maintenance landscape that would tolerate the high winds and salt spray of the exposed site and have the feel of a more traditional Cape Cod landscape.

Due to the proximity to the coastal bank, the house was sited close to the road. Plantings were used to add depth and scale to the front of the property and to create a sense of horizontality that would accentuate the distinctive lines of the architecture. A row of Honey Locusts was planted along the street to provide visual continuity with the neighboring property which was once adjoined as part of a larger estate.
